ALVAR AALTO GRAVEL TOUR


Experience world famous Alvar Aalto architectural sites in Jyväskylä by joining this 50 km guided gravel tour! English and Finnish speaking guide. 

The tour, using gravel roads in and around the city, will make a stop at 5 Alvar Aalto sights, including two short guided tours in Säynätsalo and the Aalto Museum. The museum is the starting point for this group ride.

Aalto Afternoon Ride with Optional Dinner 

Start time: 15:00 

Start location:  Aalto2, Alvar Aallon katu 7, Jyväskylä 

End location: Jyväskylä City Theater 

Dinner at own expense at 19:00 in Bistro Kirkkopuisto  (Kauppakatu 16) 

Price: 50e (includes entry fees and guide)

OPTION II,  Friday 05.07.2023

Aalto Morning Ride with Lunch Included (vegan option available)

Start time: 09:00 

Start location:  Aalto2, Alvar Aallon katu 7, Jyväskylä 

End location: Bistro Kirkkopuisto (Kauppakatu 16), lunch at 13:00 

Price: 70e (includes entry fees, guide and lunch)

The main sites to visit include 

  1. Aalto2 Museum as an intro for the sites on the tour.

  2. Museum of Central Finland (not a museum tour, the building designed by Alvar Aalto), situated right next to Aalto2. 

  3. Kuokkalan Kartano (W.Lönn) Wivi Lönn was the first woman to lead her own architectural firm in Finland. She was a huge influencer to Aino Aalto, who actually was the brains behind Alvar Aalto. 

  4. Säynätsalo Town Hall. An optional artisanal ice cream  break at Arto’s Art Gelato in Juurikkasaari, ca. 1km from the Town Hall. 
                                                                 
  5. Jyväskylä University Campus (A. Aalto) The campus design and several campus buildings, including AaltoAlvar swimming hall building.  

  6. The City Theater, Jyväskylä
